* Talk with your 2 - to 4-year-old about what it might be like to be in the paintings. How would it feel? Share ideas about how color can make you feel peaceful, happy, excited, etc.

* With children ages 3 and 4, talk about how the three primary colors(red, yellow, and blue) combine to make secondary colors (orange, green, and purple). Experiment with crayons and child-safe paints.

About the art:

Van Gogh used thick layers of paint, and his brushstrokes often form patterns. He used complementary colors side by side, which makes objects in his paintings powerful and vivid. His figures are usually outlined, which makes them stand out. You may also notice a lot of swirls and curves in his work ---- it is hard to find a straight line.
